The Return of Soca Blitz 2012: Teddyson John, Tian Winter & Invader in Brooklyn
On Saturday, September 1, 2012, Soca took over St. Lucia House in Brooklyn, New York, as Iyano Marathoners and Karma Carnival Band presented The Return of Soca Blitz during New York Carnival Weekend.
The event brought together Teddyson “TJ” John and Invader from St. Lucia alongside Antigua’s Tian Winter, with Bashment Yute billed as host.
Doors opened at 7 PM, with showtime scheduled for 9 PM, giving Carnival-weekend revelers another Soca destination as Brooklyn prepared for J’Ouvert and the West Indian American Day Carnival Parade.

Soca Blitz Returns to Brooklyn
The flyer announced “The Return of Soca Blitz,” bringing the Soca-focused event to St. Lucia House, formerly known as Helenites, at 438 East 49th Street in Brooklyn.
Presented by Iyano Marathoners and Karma Carnival Band, the fete carried a strong Eastern Caribbean identity, with artists representing both St. Lucia and Antigua.
Karma Carnival Band revelers were also offered discounted admission, connecting the event directly to the mas and Carnival activity taking place across Brooklyn that weekend.
Tian Winter Represents Antigua
Tian Winter represented Antigua at Soca Blitz.
Already making his mark in Antigua’s Soca scene, Winter joined the Brooklyn lineup alongside the St. Lucian performers for a night built around Eastern Caribbean music.

Soca on New York Carnival Weekend
September 1 fell on the Saturday of New York Carnival Weekend, when Brooklyn fills with fetes, concerts, mas-band events and Caribbean celebrations leading into J’Ouvert and the Labor Day parade.
The Return of Soca Blitz added a strong St. Lucian and Antiguan presence to that weekend, bringing Eastern Caribbean Soca into St. Lucia House for a Saturday-night celebration.
With Teddyson John, Tian Winter and Invader on the bill, Soca Blitz gave fans another place to experience the music that drives Carnival long before the masqueraders reached Eastern Parkway.
