Vaughn’s Red Eye Miami 2012: Carnival Saturday at King of Diamonds
Miami Carnival weekend wasn’t only about the road.
On Saturday, October 6, 2012, the nightlife side of Carnival weekend was in full swing as Vaughn’s Red Eye took over King of Diamonds in Miami.
Julianspromos was inside the party with Sheniele “Vivaa” Dodson hosting the coverage while Julian C. Hackett shot and edited the footage, capturing a very different side of Miami Carnival from the concerts, J’Ouvert and pretty mas happening elsewhere that weekend.

Carnival Saturday After Dark
Saturday, October 6 was one of the busiest days of Miami Carnival weekend.
Across South Florida, Carnival visitors moved between J’Ouvert, major Soca events, parties and late-night destinations before the main parade on Sunday.
Vaughn’s Red Eye was part of that after-dark experience.
Instead of a traditional stage show built around one featured performer, the surviving footage focuses on the party atmosphere inside King of Diamonds — the crowd, personalities and energy of a Miami Carnival Saturday night.
Inside King of Diamonds
By 2012, King of Diamonds had become one of Miami’s most talked-about nightlife destinations.
A Miami New Times cover story published just months before Carnival documented the venue’s strong connection to hip-hop culture and its popularity with major entertainers, athletes and celebrity visitors.
That made Red Eye a very different stop from the Soca concerts Julianspromos had been covering throughout the weekend.
Here, the attraction was the nightlife experience itself.
Vaughn’s Red Eye on Video
The surviving Julianspromos video puts viewers inside the event with Vivaa moving through the party and interacting with people in the venue.
The coverage was hosted by Sheniele “Vivaa” Dodson, shot and edited by Julian C. Hackett, and uploaded to YouTube on December 25, 2012.
A Different Side of Miami Carnival
Much of the surviving Julianspromos Miami archive from 2012 is rooted in Soca.
There was R.A.V.E., with Machel Montano, Bunji Garlin, Kes, Kerwin Du Bois and others.
There was Ram Jam Bash, with Burning Flames, Red Hot Flames and Pumpa.
There was Saturday morning J’Ouvert.
And the next day, Vivaa would be back on the road for Miami Broward Carnival at Sun Life Stadium.
Red Eye adds something different.
It captures what happened after dark, when Carnival visitors moved from the concerts and outdoor celebrations into Miami nightlife.

One Weekend, Many Sides of Miami
Taken together, the surviving 2012 coverage shows just how much was happening around Miami Carnival.
Within the same weekend, Julianspromos cameras moved through large Soca concerts, artist interviews, J’Ouvert, Carnival road coverage and nightlife.
Vaughn’s Red Eye belongs to that story because Carnival weekend did not stop when the performances ended.
For many people, the night was just beginning.

Looking back at Vaughn’s Red Eye offers a glimpse of Miami Carnival after dark in 2012.
The video is not centered around one big performance or formal interview. Instead, it preserves the people, atmosphere and nightlife surrounding Carnival Saturday inside one of Miami’s best-known entertainment venues of the era.
With Sheniele “Vivaa” Dodson hosting from inside the party and Julian C. Hackett behind the camera and editing, the surviving footage feels like stepping back into the room rather than simply reading about what happened there.
Together with the three surviving images, Vaughn’s Red Eye adds another piece to the larger Miami Carnival 2012 story — a weekend that moved from J’Ouvert in the morning to parties after dark and finally onto the Carnival road.
