Anything Goes Live New York 2014: Spice, Beenie Man, Tessanne Chin & Caribbean Stars in Queens
On Saturday, August 30, 2014, DJ Norie’s Anything Goes Live: Labor Day Edition brought a packed Caribbean lineup to Amazura Concert Hall in Queens, New York, right in the middle of New York Carnival Weekend.
The night brought Reggae and Dancehall stars together on one stage while thousands of Caribbean music fans were already in the city for Labor Day celebrations.

Labor Day Saturday at Amazura
The original event flyer positioned Anything Goes Live as one of the major Saturday-night concerts of Labor Day Weekend.
Hosted by DJ Norie of Power 105.1, the show was held at Amazura Concert Hall at 91-12 144th Place in Jamaica, Queens. Tickets were advertised at $35. The venue address is also independently documented in contemporary 2014 listings.
The advertised lineup was deep:
Mavado, Beenie Man, Sanchez, Tessanne Chin, Assassin, Gyptian, Khari Kill, Tifa, Khago, Ricky Blaze and Bugle.
That roster alone made the event a snapshot of Jamaican music at a particularly busy moment in New York’s Caribbean calendar.

Together, they provide a fuller picture of the event than either piece of media could on its own.
Tessanne Chin Returns to a New York Caribbean Stage
Tessanne Chin’s appearance came during a major period in her career.
By August 2014, she had already become widely known beyond the Caribbean after winning The Voice in the United States, bringing a different kind of international attention to the Anything Goes lineup.
At Amazura, however, she was back in a Caribbean concert setting surrounded by artists from the Reggae and Dancehall world.
That combination makes her appearance particularly interesting to revisit now: a Jamaican artist enjoying mainstream American recognition while still appearing on one of New York’s biggest Caribbean weekends.
Beenie Man, Spice, Gyptian & a Heavy Dancehall Lineup
The surviving footage also captures several artists who helped define Jamaican music during the period.
Beenie Man brought decades of Dancehall history to the stage, while Spice represented a newer generation that was continuing to grow internationally.
Gyptian, Assassin and Bugle added even more depth to the lineup captured by Julianspromos.
Instead of relying on one headline performance, Anything Goes Live moved through a series of recognizable Caribbean voices — exactly the kind of format that made the concert name fit.

DJ Norie’s Anything Goes Live
By 2014, Anything Goes Live was already an established part of DJ Norie’s Caribbean entertainment brand.
The series officially launched in March 2010 to celebrate Norie’s first year on New York’s Power 105.1 FM and later developed into a recurring concert series featuring major Caribbean performers.
That history gave the Labor Day edition a natural place within New York Carnival Weekend.
While Eastern Parkway represented the cultural centerpiece of Labor Day, events like Anything Goes Live showed what happened around the road — Reggae, Dancehall and Caribbean nightlife filling venues across the city throughout the weekend.
From the Julianspromos Archives
The August 30, 2014 coverage is especially interesting within Julianspromos history because Anything Goes Live was not the only major event the team documented that night.
While Marsha Monelle and Calvin Tucker were inside Amazura in Queens covering Anything Goes Live, another Julianspromos crew was across the city in Brooklyn documenting Wii Carnival, where Intrigue Lane hosted and Julian C. Hackett handled the video production.
Two different venues. Two major Caribbean events. The same night.
That moment says a lot about how Julianspromos had grown by 2014.
The archive was no longer dependent on one person being able to attend one event at a time. A broader team of hosts and camera operators made it possible to document multiple parts of New York Carnival Weekend simultaneously, while Julian continued bringing the footage together through the final edits.
Anything Goes Live therefore preserves more than a major Reggae and Dancehall concert.
It also captures a point when the Julianspromos media operation itself was expanding — covering Queens and Brooklyn at the same time during one of the busiest nights of New York’s Caribbean calendar.
