Barbados Crop Over 2015: Grand Kadooment from the National Stadium to Spring Garden
Barbados brought its 2015 Crop Over season to a colorful climax on Monday, August 3, 2015, as thousands of masqueraders took to the road for Republic Bank Grand Kadooment.
Beginning at the National Stadium in Waterford, St. Michael, the parade moved through the streets toward Spring Garden Highway, bringing together costume bands, Soca and the unmistakable energy of Barbados’ biggest Carnival road event. The National Cultural Foundation scheduled Grand Kadooment to begin at 9 AM, closing a Crop Over season that had officially run from May through August.
Approximately 10,000 costumed masqueraders from 24 bands were expected to take part in the 2015 parade, making the road a moving showcase of Bajan mas, music and design.
Grand Kadooment Takes Over the Road
Grand Kadooment is the final major road event of Crop Over, when months of costume design, band launches, music releases and competition finally come together on the streets.
Masqueraders first crossed the stage at the National Stadium before beginning the journey toward Spring Garden.
The route transformed as each band entered with its own colors, themes and sections. Feathers, jewels and large costume pieces moved alongside music trucks while spectators lined the road to watch the presentations pass.
In 2015, the event also carried a new official name: Republic Bank Grand Kadooment, after Republic Bank became title sponsor of the event for the first time.
24 Bands, Thousands of Masqueraders
The scale of Grand Kadooment was part of what made the final day of Crop Over different from the events that came before it.
Around 24 registered bands and approximately 10,000 masqueraders were expected to converge on the National Stadium before heading onto the road.
Throughout the day, each band brought its own interpretation of Bajan mas to the parade, creating a constantly changing landscape of costume design and color.
The destination was Spring Garden Highway, where Crop Over’s biggest road celebration reached its finale beside the Caribbean Sea.
Peter Ram’s “All Ah We” Becomes the Sound of the Road
The music of Grand Kadooment carries its own competition.
Songs are counted at designated judging points along the route to determine the annual Tune of the Crop, Barbados’ road march title.
In 2015, Peter Ram captured the crown with “All Ah We.” The National Cultural Foundation’s official winners list records Peter Ram as the 2015 Tune of the Crop winner, adding another title to a season in which the song had already become one of Crop Over’s defining anthems.
As bands moved toward Spring Garden, All Ah We became one of the sounds most closely associated with the road that year.
The Final Day of a Full Crop Over Season
Grand Kadooment was only the final chapter of a much larger festival.
The official 2015 Crop Over calendar included Junior Kadooment, Soca Royale, Pic-O-De-Crop, Foreday Morning Jam, Bridgetown Market, steelpan events and cultural showcases before reaching Grand Kadooment on August 3.
That range is part of what gives Crop Over its own identity.
The festival stretches well beyond a single parade, connecting contemporary Soca and mas with Barbados’ cultural traditions and the celebration of the end of the sugar cane harvest.
Grand Kadooment is where much of that season finally meets on the road.
From Waterford to Spring Garden
The route itself is one of the defining images of Crop Over.
Bands left the National Stadium in Waterford and moved toward Spring Garden Highway, with crowds gathering along the way to watch the procession.
By the time masqueraders reached Spring Garden, costumes that had begun the morning carefully assembled had spent hours in the sun, on the road and moving to Soca.
That journey — from the Stadium stage to Spring Garden — is the Grand Kadooment experience.

The 2015 Barbados Crop Over Grand Kadooment coverage marked a different kind of archive collaboration for Julianspromos.
During 2015, Carnival Live TV (CLTV) and Julianspromos formed a limited content partnership, allowing coverage produced in the Caribbean to be presented through the Julianspromos platform.
For Grand Kadooment on August 3, 2015, the footage was shot in Barbados by Carnival Live TV.
Julian C. Hackett edited and presented the coverage from New York, creating the finished “2015 Barbados Crop Over Highlights via CLTV 8/3/15” feature for Julianspromos.
The video was uploaded to the Julianspromos YouTube channel on September 15, 2015.
The collaboration extended the archive beyond events Julianspromos physically covered itself, adding Barbados’ Grand Kadooment to the growing record of Caribbean Carnival celebrations documented across the region in 2015.
