GBM Showcase Brooklyn 2014 Highlights
On March 21, 2014, Julianspromos was in Brooklyn for the GBM Showcase, a live Soca event bringing several major Caribbean artists together at SRB Brooklyn.
The lineup featured Destra Garcia, Ravi B, Lyrikal, GBM Nutron, Jaiga and Shal Marshall, creating a showcase that moved across different styles and personalities within contemporary Soca.

Soca Takes Over SRB Brooklyn
The GBM Showcase placed live Caribbean music inside one of Brooklyn’s entertainment venues during a period when New York’s Soca scene was becoming increasingly active year-round.
The lineup combined established performers with artists whose influence would continue growing in the years that followed.
It gave New York audiences the chance to experience several voices from the Trinidad and Tobago music scene in one event.
Destra Garcia
Destra Garcia brought one of Soca’s most recognizable voices to the showcase.
Already established internationally, Destra’s presence added major star power to a lineup that also represented the next wave of artists and producers moving through Caribbean music.
Ravi B
Ravi B added the Chutney Soca dimension to the night.
His appearance reflected the wider musical range found within Trinidad and Tobago culture and gave the showcase another layer beyond a strictly Power or Groovy Soca lineup.
Lyrikal, Shal Marshall, Jaiga and GBM Nutron
The showcase also featured Lyrikal, Shal Marshall, Jaiga and GBM Nutron.
Together, the cast reflected a network of singers, writers, producers and performers whose work would continue shaping Soca beyond the 2014 season.
GBM Nutron’s presence is especially interesting in retrospect because his career would continue growing as both an artist and producer, connecting him creatively with several of the same artists appearing on the showcase.
DJs and Sounds
The event also featured music from GBM Sounds, Natural Freaks, Supreme Team, Platinum Sounds, DJ Spice, Hyper Active Sounds, DJ Trixta, Young Chow and Crazy Beenie.
That combination of live artists and DJs represented the structure of many successful Caribbean events in New York: stage performances surrounded by selectors keeping the music and crowd moving throughout the night.
A Showcase That Grew
GBM Showcase would continue developing beyond this 2014 edition, establishing itself as a recurring event connected with the wider GBM movement.
That gives this early Brooklyn footage additional meaning today.
It captures the showcase during an earlier stage of a concept that would continue evolving within Soca culture.
