Bacchanal Jamaica Carnival 2015: On the Road With LehWeGoSleek
One day after Sunrise Breakfast Party, it was time to leave the fete and hit the road.
On Sunday, April 12, 2015, Bacchanal Jamaica brought its Carnival season to a colorful finale as masqueraders filled the streets of Kingston for the annual Road March.
The 2015 presentation was themed “Untamed,” bringing weeks of Soca parties, J’Ouvert and Carnival events to a close with costumes, music and thousands of moving bodies on the road.
Julianspromos joined the celebration from inside the mas.
Intrigue Lane hosted the coverage while playing mas with LehWeGoSleek, with Julian C. Hackett behind the camera and handling the edit.
Jamaica Carnival Hits the Road
By Sunday morning, Kingston had already been through a packed Carnival week.
Bacchanal Fridays had built momentum throughout the season. Beach J’Ouvert and Bacchanal J’Ouvert pushed the celebration into its final stretch. Sunrise Breakfast Party had taken over Hope Zoo the morning before.
Now there was nowhere left to go but the road.
Hundreds of costumed revellers and additional Soca fans poured into Kingston’s Corporate Area for the Road March, moving through the city before the celebration eventually returned to Mas Camp. Contemporary coverage described the streets filling with both masqueraders and spectators as the 2015 Bacchanal season reached its finale.
Intrigue Plays Mas With LehWeGoSleek
For this coverage, Intrigue was not watching Carnival from the sidelines.
She was inside it.
Wearing a costume with LehWeGoSleek, Intrigue hosted Julianspromos from within the Road March, surrounded by masqueraders as the band moved through Kingston.
That changed the feel of the coverage.
Instead of simply looking at Jamaica Carnival from outside the ropes, viewers were brought directly into the experience — costumes, movement, music and all.
LehWeGoSleek made a strong impression during its first Jamaica Carnival presentation. The group later described its 2015 road package as including pre-road activities, dedicated road service, premium lunch amenities, makeup touch-ups and professional photography. Contemporary Gleaner coverage went even further, saying LehWeGoSleek “dominated the road” that year.
A New Competitive Element for Bacchanal
The 2015 Road March also brought competition back into the Bacchanal experience.
Bacchanal Jamaica introduced allied groups including LehWeGoSleek, Unleashed, Euphoric and Peeny Wallie Mas, with judging returning as part of the road presentation.
For masqueraders, that meant the costumes were not just for the road.
Presentation, creativity and overall impact mattered too.
Kaci Fennell Leads the Band
Another new element for 2015 was the introduction of a Queen of the Band.
That role went to Kaci Fennell, who had represented Jamaica at Miss Universe 2014 and become one of the country’s most recognizable personalities.
Bacchanal Jamaica announced that Fennell would lead the Road March in a specially designed costume, adding another high-profile Jamaican presence to the Carnival celebration.
“Untamed” Takes Over Kingston
Bacchanal Jamaica had announced the Untamed theme months before Carnival, with the season built around new costumes, outside sections, Soca artists and a packed calendar of events.
By April 12, all of that planning came down to one day.
The costumes were finally on the road.
The Soca moved from Mas Camp into Kingston.
And the different groups that had spent months preparing their sections were finally sharing the same Carnival route.

From Sunrise to the Road
For Julianspromos, Jamaica Carnival 2015 was more than a single assignment.
The previous morning, Intrigue and Julian had been at Sunnation’s Sunrise Breakfast Party at Hope Zoo, covering an early-morning fete with Machel Montano, Blaxx and Angela Hunte.
Less than 24 hours later, they were back out — this time on the streets of Kingston for Bacchanal Jamaica.
The two events showed very different sides of the same Carnival weekend.
Sunrise was breakfast, premium drinks and live performances before noon.
Bacchanal was costumes, trucks, Soca and hours on the road.

Jamaica Gives Carnival Its Own Flavor
Bacchanal Jamaica had already spent years developing a Carnival identity that felt distinctly Jamaican.
The music was heavily Soca-driven, but the environment, crowd and entertainment culture around it belonged to Kingston.
Bacchanal director Michael Ammar Jr. described Carnival as firmly established within Jamaica’s entertainment scene, while emphasizing the local flavor Jamaica had added to the wider Caribbean tradition.
That mix is what made the 2015 road experience stand out.
It was Caribbean Carnival — but unquestionably Jamaica.

The 2015 Jamaica trip came during a period when Julianspromos was increasingly taking its cameras beyond New York and following Caribbean culture directly into Carnival destinations.
On this Road March, Intrigue was not just introducing viewers to the event.
She was playing mas inside it.
Julian was not filming from a fixed stage or press area.
He was moving with the celebration.
That puts this coverage right in the middle of what Julianspromos was becoming during the mid-2010s: a Caribbean media platform documenting Carnival by actually going where Carnival happened.
And on April 12, 2015, that meant Kingston.
