Miami Broward Carnival Official J’Ouvert 2015: On the Road With GenX RedAntz
Paint, water and Soca took over Central Broward Regional Park in Lauderhill on Saturday, October 10, 2015, as the Miami Broward Carnival Official J’Ouvert brought thousands of masqueraders into one of the biggest mornings of Miami Carnival weekend.
Running from 7 AM to 2 PM, the official J’Ouvert was part of a four-event Carnival schedule that also included Junior Carnival, the King and Queen competition and Panorama, followed by the Parade of Bands and Concert the next day.
For the 2015 road experience, Sheniele “Vivaa” Dodson and Intrigue Lane joined GenX RedAntz, bringing the audience directly inside the paint, music and movement of J’Ouvert.
On the Road With GenX RedAntz
GenX RedAntz returned to Miami J’Ouvert with a presentation built around multiple sections and the full paint-and-water experience associated with the band.
The Julianspromos coverage followed the BACHAC section by YMogul, capturing masqueraders as the morning unfolded around them. The band experience incorporated paint, water, drinks and nonstop Soca as participants moved through Central Broward Regional Park.
Rather than simply watching J’Ouvert from the outside, Vivaa and Intrigue were moving with the band, surrounded by masqueraders already covered in color.
That gave the coverage the loose, unpredictable energy that makes J’Ouvert different from the polished costumes of the main Carnival parade.
Paint Before Mas
J’Ouvert has its own identity within Carnival weekend.
There are no elaborate feathered costumes required. Instead, the morning belongs to paint, powder, water, mud, music and freedom of expression.
In Miami, the 2015 official J’Ouvert remained in Broward County at Central Broward Regional Park, while the main Parade of Bands and Concert moved south to the Miami-Dade Fairgrounds on October 11.
That made Saturday morning its own destination rather than simply a warm-up for the parade.
From the first paint splash to the final stretch of Soca, J’Ouvert offered a different kind of Carnival experience.
Vivaa & Intrigue Inside the Celebration
Vivaa and Intrigue Lane hosted from within GenX RedAntz rather than from a fixed interview position.
As masqueraders moved around them, the coverage captured spontaneous conversations, reactions and road moments in the middle of the celebration.
Paint covered clothes and bodies.
Water trucks moved through the band.
Soca kept the energy going through the morning.
And the camera moved with it all.
Back With GenX RedAntz
The 2015 assignment continued a relationship already established the previous year.
In 2014, Julianspromos had also joined GenX Red Antz for Miami Carnival J’Ouvert, with Vivaa, Chandy and Intrigue hosting coverage from inside the band. That edition included live appearances from Ricardo Drue and Lead Pipe & Saddis.

Returning in 2015 meant another morning inside the same J’Ouvert experience, but with a new Carnival season, new music and another crowd ready to get covered in paint.
A Full Miami Carnival Weekend
The official J’Ouvert was one part of an extensive Miami Broward Carnival schedule.
Junior Carnival took place on October 4, followed by King, Queen, Individual and Panorama competitions on October 9. J’Ouvert filled Central Broward Regional Park the following morning before the Parade of Bands and Concert moved to the Miami-Dade Fairgrounds on Sunday, October 11.
Together, those events allowed different Carnival traditions to have their own stage — children’s mas, steelpan, large costumes, J’Ouvert and finally the full road parade.
For anyone spending the entire weekend inside Carnival, Saturday morning belonged to paint.
