Miami Carnival 2013 Highlights

Julianspromos was on the road in South Florida for Miami Broward One Carnival 2013, capturing the Soca, mas and Caribbean energy of one of the largest Carnival celebrations in the United States.

The main Carnival took place on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, bringing together more than 20 masquerade bands and thousands of Carnival lovers for a day of costumes, music and Caribbean culture.

For the 2013 experience, Julianspromos joined FreaksNY Mas, with Sheniele “Vivaa” Dodson featured in the original Julianspromos coverage as the celebration unfolded on the road.

On the Road With FreaksNY Mas

Julianspromos documented Miami Carnival from inside the FreaksNY Mas experience, capturing masqueraders, costumes, Soca and the atmosphere surrounding the band as it made its way through the Carnival presentation.

The original footage also preserves Freaks Mas crossing the judging point, with sections including Cypher, Red Army, Rebirth of Camo, Blue Camo & Mud, Dutty, Mud & Mas, White Out, Colors of the Earth, AOA, Rio and Future appearing during the presentation.

With Sheniele “Vivaa” Dodson featured throughout the coverage, the video gives viewers a look back at Miami Carnival from within the action rather than simply documenting the event from the sidelines.

The Sound of Miami Carnival 2013

Music is a major part of the historical value of the original Julianspromos footage.

The nearly 50-minute Carnival feature preserves an extensive snapshot of the Soca moving the road during the 2013 season, with music from artists including Bunji Garlin, Machel Montano, Kerwin Du Bois, Lil Rick, Nadia Batson, Edwin Yearwood, Lyrikal, Denise Belfon, Blaxx, Superblue, Patrice Roberts, Kes, Benjai, Fadda Fox and others.

Songs heard throughout the coverage include “Carnival Tabanca,” “Differentology,” “Fantastic Friday,” “Bruk It,” “A Little Wine,” “Where We From,” “Go Dung,” “Clear D Way” and other releases that helped define the period.

The Freaks Mas presentation also featured custom dub plates, further connecting the music directly to the band's road experience.

Mr Killa Live

The original Julianspromos coverage also captured Mr Killa performing live, including “Rolly Polly” and “Sugar Pot.”

Those performance moments add another layer to the archive, preserving not only the soundtrack of Miami Carnival 2013 but also artists interacting directly with the Carnival crowd.

Miami Broward One Carnival 2013

The 2013 celebration brought more than 20 competing masquerade bands to Sun Life Stadium as Miami Carnival continued its long-running role as a major gathering for Caribbean communities in South Florida and visitors from around the world.

Bands were judged on elements including visual impact, creativity, authenticity, use of color and presentation.

Gye Nyame captured the 2013 Band of the Year title with “Return to Glory,” followed by Ti Chapo with “The Secret of Love” and Euphoria with “Genesis.”

The Parade of Bands was followed by a major concert featuring Caribbean entertainment, including 2013 Trinidad and Tobago Soca Monarch and Road March winner Superblue.

A Growing Julianspromos Multimedia Presence

Miami Carnival 2013 represents an important period in Julianspromos’ evolution from digital music promotion into a broader Caribbean multimedia platform.

By this stage, Julianspromos was combining its growing music presence with original Carnival footage, artist appearances and on-location entertainment coverage.

The Miami footage featuring Sheniele “Vivaa” Dodson sits within a wider 2013 period that also saw Julianspromos documenting Miami J’Ouvert, New York Carnival, Caribbean concerts, boat rides, fetes and artist interviews.

That expanding coverage would continue through 2014 before developing into the company’s first formal international Multimedia Carnival Tour in 2015.
